‘Growing Geelong’ - Property Council event

The Victorian division of the Property Council recently hosted its ‘Geelong Outlook’ event at GMHBA Stadium, bringing together industry leaders to discuss the next phase of growth for the region.

The event explored how Geelong is transitioning from a satellite market to a major growth centre, supported by infrastructure investment, a diversifying economy and sustained population growth.

Development Director, Jessica represented Hygge on the first panel alongside representatives from government and industry, discussing the delivery of new housing in central Geelong.

The conversation focused on planning certainty, approval pathways, the feasibility of infill development and the implications of recent planning reforms for delivering more homes in established areas.

Jessica shared insights from the perspective of developers delivering projects on the ground - highlighting the importance of policy settings aligning with project feasibility to enable the next phase of housing delivery.

Jessica with panel members Aaron Garrett (DoTP), Theo Axarlis (Gersh Investment Partners Ltd) and Alison McFarlane (DoTP) and panel moderator Samantha Ramsey (Ramsey Property Group) alongside Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM (City of Greater Geelong), Paul Crowe (Plenary Group), Angie Zigomanis (Quantify Strategic Insights) and Andrew Lowcock (Property Council Australia).

With Geelong expected to deliver 128,000 new homes by 2051, much of that growth will rely on well-planned infill development within existing neighbourhoods.

The half-day program also featured keynote presentations and panels exploring the city’s broader growth outlook - including the development and upcoming opening of the Nyaal Banyul precinct, new insights into housing and population trends as well as the economic role of Avalon Airport within the emerging Greater Avalon employment precinct.
