Canadian Creek Reserve Works Recognised

The Canadian Creek Reserve restoration works at The Roads in Mount Clear has been recognised with the Community Environment Group Award at the City of Ballarat Environmental Stewardship Awards.

The award was presented at Ballarat Town Hall during the inaugural Ballarat Biodiversity Week, which celebrates the people, projects and organisations helping to protect and enhance Ballarat's natural environment. Read more HERE.

The Roads has always been about more than creating a new neighbourhood. From the beginning, restoring and protecting the Canadian Creek corridor was central to creating a lasting environmental and community asset for future generations.

What was once a degraded section of Canadian Creek has now been restored into more than 10 acres of publicly accessible open space, with extensive indigenous planting, creek rehabilitation, walking trails and new habitat for local wildlife. More than 5,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses now form part of a healthier, more resilient creek corridor for Mount Clear. Images of the early stage works and planting below.

At the award ceremony, the project was also recognised for demonstrating how environmental restoration and community benefit can work hand in hand. Walking trails, shelters and viewing areas invite residents to connect with nature, while partnerships with local schools provided opportunities for young people to become directly involved in the restoration process. 

The recognition reflects the contribution of a wonderful project team and partners - including Thomson Hay Landscape Architects, Axiom Civil Engineering, Amla Services and Emmaus Catholic Primary School, whose students helped complete the final stages of planting.

The project team are incredibly proud to see this work recognised and to have played a part in restoring an important piece of Ballarat's natural environment.
